Hey ya’ll. I’m really excited about this one. As you know, I’m a nursing mother. I’ve written about some of my breastfeeding experiences and tips a few times now (such as here and here), and if you follow me over on Instagram, you’re aware I’ve been working through some supply issues recently. I’m happy to report that I’m 10+ months in with Sylvie though and cherishing every bit of it. There’s something so special about this bond with her. She’s an easy nurser – snuggly, efficient and good on the go. What’s not always as easy though, are the times when I’m away from her, when I have to pump.
As a person with commitments outside of my children and a working mother, I often find that my breast pump is my most necessitated accessory these days. If I’m not with Sylvie, I’ve most likely brought it with me. Pumping is not really my favorite activity, but I’m so grateful for the ability and flexibility to be away from my little girl and still continue my role as a nursing mother. My life’s demands have taken me through quite a pumping and breastfeeding journey thus far. As I reflect now, I feel that I’ve most likely pumped or nursed just about anywhere you can think of, every place you can imagine. With the extent of those places, I’m sure you understand I’ve had my share of good experiences and not-so-great experiences and I like to tell others about all of those experiences. It’s my hope that if I share some of my experiences, it may save others from making the same mistakes I did, or provide tips and encouragement too.
My sweet neighbor recently sent me a message telling me to check out the uh-mazing private, air conditioned nursing station at the Wisconsin State Fair. Oh my goodness was I excited when she sent this to me! Not only was I excited because these accommodations were beyond luxurious for such a large public event, but because she took the time to send me this key piece of information, knowing it would be as helpful for me as it was for her and her handsome little man. {Thanks again pretty lady!} Another friend and colleague of mine pointed me in the direction of a great Mother’s Room at a facility we were recently working at together. It was a private room with a comfortable recliner, complete with breastfeeding art and décor, a sink, soap and all the pumping mother needs you could imagine. Ta da! A pumping mother’s dream!
These instances are just two examples of why I’m so excited about pumpspotting. Mommas out there want to share these great spots and their pumping and breastfeeding stories with one another! Pumpspotting is an app that was launched not too long ago that is all about that. It’s for a community of moms coming together to share the best places to pump, nurse and nourish on the go. It’s an awesome way of connecting with others through mommahood – something I absolutely love to do. This app allows you to find spots and share spots so that others who are traveling to or through your location can find the brightest gems in the world of nursing/pumping mothers. There’s a mama feed to connect with others through questions and conversations, a place to search all the spots based on location and way you can add your greatest spots (or even not great spots to make other mommas aware).
Technology is always at our fingertips, seeking the best mom advice is always on our minds and pumpspotting connects those dots so well. Joining and sharing is free. And it’s a simple little way to contribute to this big, beautiful piece of motherhood. I added the workplace location I just spoke highly of with a top rating, so if you’re in the Milwaukee area, be sure to check it out.
I hope you’ll consider joining me in connecting further through motherhood (and our sore nipples). As Amy, the founder, said, “Let’s nourish mamas and change the way the world treats breastfeeding. All it takes is a few ratings, a little conversation, and a whole lot of you. Let’s get pumpspotting.”
See you on the app, friends!
