Putting makeup on in the morning is just simply part of my routine. It makes me feel good and put together, therefore it’s something I do daily. With that said, I certainly do not have a lot of time to get this task accomplished. Because of that, I’ve become as efficient as possible to get ready for the day so I can be up dressed each morning — makeup and all.
Over on Instagram stories, I asked if ya’ll wanted a little makeup rundown and the resounding answer was yes, so I know I’m not the only one with this morning dilemma. Therefore, I’ve put together some quick tips that may make your morning makeup application quicker, too.

4 Steps to Make Your Daily Makeup Application Quicker
- Make your top selections.
I’ll share mine below, but make your top selections in terms of what you want to apply each day. Maybe you’re only a mascara and blush kind of gal, or maybe you like to put more of a complete look on, like me. It’s most definitely personal preference! Whatever your top selections are, keep those narrowed shadows, blushes, liners, etc. in your repertoire and move the rest out of the way. - Narrow down your options.
Meaning, for those of you who are culprits of having a makeup drawer (or bag) full of options, separate it into what you use daily and what you want to keep for special occasions. I do have additional makeup I keep on hand for those other days or nights (dates, parties, photos, etc.), but trust me, for day-to-day, you really don’t need it all. Narrow down what you have, wherever you keep your daily makeup supply. Store the rest elsewhere so it doesn’t get mixed in or make you take longer to search for the items you need. Do you really need 4 different black eyeliners to choose from each day? - Have your go-to brushes.
After you’ve made your top application selections, you can separate out which brushes you actually need. Possibly one for foundation, blush, shadow, brows. The rest can also be discarded or stored elsewhere. - Practice and you’ll get quicker.
Get into your daily application routine WITH your new cleaned out makeup drawer and within a week you’ll be a speedy pro — promise.
My Daily Makeup
My Top Selections
I’m sharing my top selections so you have more insight into my daily makeup routine.
- Face coverage: It’s important to me to get a foundation coverage over my entire face because of my uneven skin tone, breakouts and acne scars. (See: Acne and Pregnancy Pimples posts for more of my history with breakouts.)
- Eyes: Always a choice of mine!
- Cheeks: I think blush gives you life. ?
- Brows: One of my brows has a little bit of a gap due to scarring from waxing long ago. (I now have my brows threaded.) So, I always fill them in to cover that. When I previously didn’t wear foundation regularly, I didn’t fill my brows. But, now that I do, I feel it’s a necessity + just looks undone if I don’t do it.

Mama Makeup Thoughts
- Makeup isn’t a one size fits all for everyone’s application. It’s personal! Like I said, maybe you’re just a blush and mascara mama and that is absolutely beautiful. Pick what works for you and makes you feel good.
- I do like to change things up over time. I will get a new palette (sometimes) seasonally and tend to like to switch up my blush or add bronzer into the mix.
- On special occasions I might use different shadows, possibly a different liner, contour with bronzer and add lip color.
- I’ve been thinking about adding lipstick in my daily routine, but that seems like it might be a stretch for me. ?
- Summer is a little different because I tend to like lighter everything. I’ll use a tinted moisturizer instead of a foundation most days and just use lighter colors overall.
On a regular morning at home this takes me no longer than 5 minutes to complete. After narrowing down my drawer and getting into a routine (with practice), I’ve become pretty quick! I think it’s pretty easy to accomplish and because it makes me feel better to do so, it’s totally worth the time and effort each day.

Okay, I’ve been meaning to do this, but I’m not sure how helpful it would be if I had little kiddo hands mixed in the video. Soooo, I’ll have to ask Mark when he can entertain them in order for me to record 🙂 XO
