I think it’s clear by now that I love gift giving. What you may not know though, is that I actually, secretly like wrapping gifts – although I am really behind on that task this year. I was really inspired by my friend Lo of Tone & State and her major calligraphy talents that I decided to do a DIY version of “Christmas Kraft Paper”. It is super simple and a fun way to create a pretty paper.
Here are my supplies:
My original intent was to use a white chalk pen because I loved Lo’s white on the natural paper, but I couldn’t find it in my house when I was looking for it, thus the switch in supplies. I’m actually really happy with how it turned out though. The writing is subtle, creating a cool vibe to the earthy paper material.
I started with a simple “Merry Christmas” text loop. I will be the very first to admit: I am not a calligrapher. I just went with the flow of my own cursive handwriting, not trying to do anything out of the ordinary. Also, I am a perfectionist at heart, but I did not execute those personality traits on this project. I did not pre-measure to have straight lines or use any fancy laser tool to keep me on track. I approximated the height of each of my letters, generally keeping them the same in each row. I also just continued the next line of text simply wherever I left off on the last line. For example, if the line ended with “Chris”, the next line would start with “tmas” and so on.
To show you how easy and laid back this is, I figured I’d show the project in action:
I love that this gift wrap could take a variety of formats, too. You could buy any plain paper and use any writing tool. In fact, I saw plain white wrapping paper when I was at the Dollar Store the other day and thought to myself, “how fun could that be”.
Ideas for Christmas Kraft Paper text:
- Merry Christmas
- Happy Holidays
- Holy Night
- Silent Night
- Fa la la la la
- Peace on Earth
- Let It Snow
- Tis The Season To Be Jolly
- Merry & Bright
- Holly Jolly Christmas
The list could go on and on. Other options could read: Happy Birthday, Celebrate, Congratulations, It’s A Girl, It’s A Boy, I Love You, etc. So many opportunities to create your own Creative Kraft Paper!
I am loving how this turned out and hope if you try it, you will too.
Merry Christmas everyone!
