Since posting about the stretch, I’ve had so many women reach out to me saying they feel it too. It’s no doubt that all mommas are pulled in many directions, often leaving them exhausted — for better or for worse. Whether it’s a physical, mental or emotional exhaustion, it can leave us feeling drained. There are days when we will do just about anything to cure our tiredness. Amiright? It’s the long days of illness, strong-willed toddler desiring extra special attention, teething baby, hectic work schedule and sleepless nights that have caused this exhaustion for me lately. It’s just a reality though. This is my full life that I love. So, I have to come up with ways to power through. Here are five tricks I rely on during my most tired of stretches. Under Eye Brightener
Some times you have to fake it until you make it. This under eye brightener is a product that does just that. It instantly gives me a fresh look, because let’s face it, exhaustion can easily be detected in our eyes. It drives me crazy if I get to work and someone, not mentioning any names, tells me I look tired. Why not just tell me I look like a pile of crap? ? Ha, but really, I do feel a little brightener helps me at least look as if I’m rested even if I’m not feeling it. If you’re not one to wear much makeup, try this product instead. It has a similar function without the heavier concealing feature.

Dry Shampoo
The secret of dry shampoo is a secret no more. I know so many women who rely on it as a styling product in addition to a time saver. I say, if you can reduce the amount of time to get ready by not washing your hair, DO IT. When I do this, it allows me to sleep in because it saves the blow drying and straightening or curling hassle. Two of my favorite dry shampoos are this one by TIGI and this one Big Sexy Hair, though this one is a best seller, mostly because of price. Just be sure to apply and rub in according to directions so you don’t leave any white spots of product anywhere on your head. Been there, done that and it’s not so cute.

Fresh Air
Fresh air truly has a way of refreshing my body and mind. Research shows that up to 90% of people are more energized after spending time in fresh air and also shows the scents outside can actually make you calmer and happier. I think the crisp air and outdoor scenery is very refreshing when I’m tired. Whether I just step outside for a few minutes, sit down and relax in the freshness, or go for a walk, it does my body so good. I consider it a natural reset when I use this strategy.

Exercise
Exercise boosts energy! While it may seem a little counterintuitive that burning energy, especially when tired, builds energy – it’s true. Have you ever lounged around so long that it made you more tired? It’s just like that, but opposite with exercise.
I use this exercise term lightly here, because generally speaking, just move your body. Whether I go for a walk, go for a run, do a yoga flow, participate in a favorite workout class or have a dance party in the living room, my body recognizes the energy I’m giving and gives me more energy as a result. The movement gets my blood flowing and greatly reduces the dragging and nagging feelings of tiredness. I know, I know, it’s hard to get moving when you’re feeling exhausted. When I have a hard time getting motivated to move, I tell myself I’m going to give it 5-10 minutes and if I’m still not feeling it after that, I’ll just stop. I don’t think I’ve ever stopped after just a few minutes though because once I get going, it gets easier. And, a little movement always leaves me feeling rejuvenated as well as more productive than slouching on the couch.

30 Minutes
Go to bed 30 minutes earlier than you normally would. This may take sacrifices, {i.e. less television, one less load of laundry, less time for leisure activities, etc.}, but sleep is incredibly important for your overall health. It is good for your mind and body, so whether you’re physically, mentally or emotionally exhausted, sleep is a great cure. I tend to stay up later because it’s convenient for me to use that time of day as productive time, so going to bed earlier than usual is not easy. It makes me feel like I’m giving up precious productivity. I’ve learned to recognize the benefits of the sacrifices though and therefore when I do hop in bed early, I appreciate the difference in how I feel the next morning.
These ideas here may not be rocket science, but you know what? Sometimes I need someone to tell me what to do or at least give me a reminder of the basics when I’m feeling out of sorts. Which brings me to my final point. It may be the most basic of all these tips: Make overall healthy choices, even when you’re tired. Eat healthy and stay hydrated. It will help.
The stretch is real – and so is mom fog – so, if I can encourage any mommas to overcome it in healthy ways, then I can be very happy about that. I hope you all have a great weekend and take care!

You’ve mentioned under eye brightener before. Do you know if there’s any difference between a brightener and a concealer? I may just try a brightener as I have dark circles every. Day. Ha!

There is a difference! The one I use (and linked to) acts as an illuminator, not just a concealer. It is also formulated to fight wrinkles and dark circles over time – though I have a lot of dark circle inducing days 😉
